Chief ministerial candidate: VS distances himself from CPI statement

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Opposition leader V S Achuthanandan has come out with his response on CPI leaders’ statement that those who lead party rallies need not be LDF’s chief ministerial candidate. “CPI’s opinion need to be seen as that party’s sole opinion…. the statements were made by their leaders,” VS quipped.

The CPI leaders’ statement came in the wake of CPM leader Pinarayi Vijayan gearing up to lead his party’s Nava Kerala march. It was CPI leaders Kanam Rajendran and Pannyan Raveendran, who had given statement that has political ramifications.

CPI General Secretary Sitaram Yechury had also said that the party respects populist leaders and its interest has been to ensure populism in polity.

Meanwhile, VS also commented on the court granting anticipatory bail to Vellapally in a case filed against him on charges of giving communal speeches. “In Vellapally’s case, the court should have been more alert,” he added.

Earlier, KPCC president V M Sudheeran had also come out to criticise the court’s stand.
