Vigilance raid at check posts

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A flash raid is being conducted by the vigilance at the check posts of the state. Unaccounted cash has been seized in the raid which started at 7 am Thursday under the name ‘Operation Nikuthi’. The raid was conducted as per the instruction of vigilance ADGP Shankar Reddy following hints that officials are accepting money and gifts in check posts as part of New Year Celebrations.

Unaccounted cash of Rs 3000 has been seized from the Palakkad Walayar Check Post, Rs 7000 from Aryankavu Check Post and Rs 21,000 from Kozhikode Vadakara Azhiyoor Check Post. The cash seized from Azhiyoor Check Post was found hidden under the files. Three officials have been suspended in connection with the incident. Though a raid was conducted at Muthanga in Wayanad, Kasargod Manjeswaram and Thiruvananthapuram check posts, no cash has been seized so far.

A raid is being conducted at the check posts of excise, sales tax and motor vehicle departments in the borders of the state. ADGP directed for the raid as there were complaints that big amount of cash is being collected from vehicle owners.

Irregularities of various kinds have been found in many check posts.
