Western Ghats: Centre expresses displeasure on Kerala’s report

NEW DELHI:  The Ministry of Environment and Forests Tuesday expressed displeasure on the ecologically fragile areas report submitted by Kerala in connection with the protection of Western Ghats. Union Minister of State for Environment Forests Prakash Javadekar expressed his displeasure during the talks held with Left MPs from Kerala during Parliament session.

The minister informed the MPs that there are lapses in Kerala fixing the border of people’s residential centres. The centre had earlier asked Kerala an explanation after necessary details were not included in the report.

The minister assured the MPs that their anxieties will be solved before the final report is prepared. Before the final report is prepared, the ministry will hold talks with states. Most probably talks with states coming under Western Ghats will be held in January. Each state will be given five days for discussions. A decision has been taken to hold talks with MPs in February. The final report will be prepared only after these talks, he said.
