THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala Congress (M) chairman K M Mani has demanded that special package allotted to cotton farmers in Gujarat and Maharashtra be allotted to rubber farmers in Kerala also. Mani was inaugurating the fast held by the Left in front of Raj Bhavan against the alleged negligence shown by Central-State governments towards rubber farmers.
“The government should initiate urgent steps to halt rubber import. Kerala’s economic system collapsed soon after restriction on raw rubber was done away with. The State government is also responsible for finding a solution to Kerala rubber farmer’s burning issue. In the independent trade contract ,there is option to ban import of rubber. The government should take steps to increase rubber procurement, as well” said Mani.
