Suresh Gopi to contest from Vattiyoorkavu? Speculations rife!

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Speculations are rife that actor Suresh Gopi may contest the Assembly election from the Vattiyoorkavu constituency in Thiruvanathapuram.

The rumour is that Suresh Gopi would be projected as a strong opponent to Congress candidate K Muraleedharan. It is presumed by the BJP that Suresh Gopi’s candidature will be able to give a tough contest in Vattiyoorkavu. Earlier, it was said that BJP State spokesperson V V Rajesh would be contesting from Vattiyoorkavu but now Suresh Gopi’s name is doing the rounds. It is also speculated that the central leadership would take a decision favouring Suresh Gopi but the State leadership has not given any confirmation on this.

The leaders say no discussion in this regard has taken place and Suresh Gopi also has not expressed any wish to contest from Vattiyoorkavu. Some leaders however think that Suresh Gopi would be an ideal person to contest, considering his popularity.
In the recent local body election, BJP could make gains by reaching second place in Vattiyoorkavu constituency. It could garner 30,000 votes. It won in nine wards and it came second in four wards. A meeting of State office-bearers will he held early next month, mainly to discuss Assembly election.

Meanwhile, the party is also reportedly planning to choose candidates from outside the party as there ultimate aim now is to come to power with majority and not merely to open its account.
