KOCHI: A case has been registered against a woman doctor, who examined a minor raped by a catholic priest identified as Father Edwin Figarez, under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO).
A case has been registered against Dr Ajitha under the POCSO Act of 2012 by the Puthenvelikkara police. This is for the first time a case has been registered against a doctor who examined a sexual assault victim under the POCSO Act in Kerala.
The law says that if a child is sexually assaulted then it should be immediately informed to the police. The doctor refused to inform the concerned even after the minor’s statement was recorded. The report submitted has made it clear. A case has been registered against the doctor naming her as the fourth accused. The incident came to light in March 2015.
