Tribal baby dies in Wayanad

KALPETTA: A tribal baby died at Pulpally in Wayanad district Monday evening. But the Health Department authorities said the child did not die of malnutrition as it had the required weight at the time of birth. The three-day-old baby of Bindu and Lalu of Palakkolly Paniya tribal hamlet in Pulpally grama panchayat died at their house. Bindu was admitted to the Pulpally PHC on December 17 and she was referred to the Sulthan Bathery taluk hospital the next day, her relatives said. Bindu gave birth to a baby boy on Saturday. She was discharged from the hospital on Monday afternoon. When the couple reached their hamlet in a taxi, they found the child died. But the taluk hospital authorities said the mother and child were healthy when they were discharged from the hospital. The child did not die of malnutrition as it had a weight of 2.8 kg at the time of birth.
