THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Central government has announced relaxation of Kabotash law for the Vizhinjam port, the day on which the construction works of the port project was inaugurated. Union Shipping Minister Nitin Gadkari, who attended the inaugural function on Saturday announced this and said that the Central government will issue order in this regard within 15 days.
Kabotash is the law that prevents foreign shipping companies from transporting goods between two ports in a country (domestic shipping). It is to encourage indigenous shipping companies. Most of the countries have this law to promote domestic /local companies.
Chief Minsiter Oommen Chandy said the first phase of the project will be completed within 1000 days.
