NEW DELHI: SNDP’s political wing Bharat Dharma Jana Sena (BDJS) will not get ‘folded palms’ as its symbol. Informing this, Chief Election Commission officials said that the symbol could be permitted as the rules stipulate that a symbol having resemblance with an existing one should not be allowed.
As the Election Commission has clarified its stand, the BDJS will have to search for a new symbol now.
“BDJS’ symbol has close resemblance with the symbol of Congress, a national party. As that is the case, if the folded palm symbol is allotted, it will create confusion among voters,” the Election Commission explained.
KPCC president V M Sudheeran had also requested the Commission not to allow the folded palm as BJDS’ symbol. He also had plans to send a complaint to the election in this regard.
Vellapally had announced the symbol on December 4, when his Samathva Munnetta Yatra concluded at Sankhumugam.
