On May 25, the father and son had a heated argument apparently over rent collected from one of their buildings. The fight happened during their journey back from Thiruvananthapuram after getting their car’s air-conditioner repaired, said police.

Sherin, according to the police, then used his father’s gun to fire four rounds at him.

The incident took place at a desolate place in Mulakkuzha.

Sherin later cut the body into pieces, packed them in bags and threw them away at various places during the night.

Joy later called up his mother Mariyamma and told her that his father was killed in an accidental firing and sought an apology. Mariyamma then informed the police, who tracked him down to a hotel in Kottayam on May 27.

The police claimed that since childhood, Sherin had a strained relationship with his father, who was not willing to part with his property to help him out. John, they added, had a good relation with his two other children, both medical professionals.
