Vigilace and anti-corruption bureau raid at residences of SIDCO former MD

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A raid is being conducted by the vigilance and anti-corruption bureau at the houses of SIDCO former MD Saji Basheer in connection with amassment of wealth disproportionate to his known sources of income. The raid led by special cell SP Rajendran started soon after a first information report was produced in the court by Thiruvananthapuram vigilance special unit alleging that he amassed Rs 25 lakh when he was the head of government’s public sector undertakings.

The raids which started at 7 am Wednesday morning were held at his house in Mannamoola, Peroorkada, his flat in Vattiyoorkavu, family house in Chozhiyakod and his wife’s house in Manacaud at the same time. A complaint was lodged against him after he was found to have amassed wealth of Rs 23 lakh disproportionate to his known sources of income during 2008-2015 while serving as the managing director of SIDCO and Kerala Industrial Enterprises.

The vigilance was able to recover many documents and evidences in connection with the amassment of wealth. Saji Basheer, his wife and child were at home at the time of the raid. The special cell registered an FIR against him again at a time when a probe against him in six cases was continuing over the corruption and irregularities noticed in the appointments when he was holding the top posts.
