Senior CPM leader V V Dakshinamoorthy dies

KOZHIKODE: CPM State Secretariat member and former Deshabhimani Chief Editor V V Dakshinamoorthy (82) passed away on Wednesday. The end came at Kozhikode Cooperative hospital, where he was under treatment for lung cancer. Earlier he had been under treatment in Kozhikode PVS hospital and MIMS. Though he came back to his house at Palery, he was admitted to Cooperative hospital as his condition started worsening.

A native of Palery near Perambra in Kozhikode, he was born in 1934 at Panakkat. For 19 years, he had been Deshabhimani Kozhikode unit manager. He was elected to Assembly from Perambra in 1965, 67 and 80.

From 1980-82, he had been CPM Assembly whip. He was Malabar Devaswom Employees Union (CITU) State president at the time of death. For a long time he had been Calicut University Syndicate member.

He joined Communist party in 1950 when he was 16. For 26 years he worked as school teacher and in 1982, he retired from Vadakkumbadu high school.

In the same year, he became CPM State committee member. Then he worked as Kozhikode district secretary for some time. During emergency period he served jail term for 16 months.

Retired teacher T M Nalini is his wife.
