Chennithala likens Welfare Schemes to King’s Onam gift: Chennithala

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala has said CPM is giving Welfare pension to people like kings in olden times giving Onam gifts to his subjects.

“The CPM has made the government’s Welfare pension distribution look like a CPM programme. CPM leaders who are Cooperative Society office-bearers gather people and make distribution of Welfare funds a big celebration,” Chennithala said at a press conference held at Cantonment house on Monday.

“There are reports that after distributing welfare pension in the name of Onam gift, leaders are taking back a share from them. Cooperative societies for pension distribution should be chosen through District Cooperative with the permission of Registrars. The present government is not giving pension to anyone other than the beneficiaries during the time of former government,” he said.

Chennithala also criticised Pinarayi for his opinion that Secretariat employees should not lay Atthapookalam during working hours. “His comment tantamount to blatant ridicule of the employees. There is nothing wrong if staff laid Atthapookalam after office hours. It is irony that this is said by a person who calls for strike during Onam seasons,” he said.
