THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In the heavy rain that lashed the State on Wednesday night, a housewife at Nellimoodu Kannaravila lost her life as the wall of her house caved in, instantly burying her alive. Though her husband also went under the mud, the local residents managed to dig out him alive.
The dead has been identified as Omana (50) from Kuzhivila Vadakkarikathu house. Her husband is Babu (55) and he has been admitted to Medical College with serous injuries.
The incident happened at around 12 midnight when the hill behind the house came down and fell on the tin-roofed house of the couple. This led to the collapse of a side wall of the house. The couple was in deep sleep even when they were getting covered by the mud from the collapsed wall.
Their son Vinod, who was sleeping in the next room, came to know of the incident only half an hour later. Hearing his cries, the neighbours reached the spot and pulled out the couple, but by the time Omana had died.
