Lorry, car collide; two dead

KOLANCHERY:  Two persons died on Saturday when a speeding container lorry lost control and rammed two cars at M C Road in Mannoor. Eight persons were injured. The incident took place at around 1 am. The cars were heading towards Nedumbassery airport. The deceased were Thomas (65) from Vakathanam David villa and George Mathew (34) from Kidangoor Kudalloorpathy.

Suresh, 41, from Kottayam Pathamukkam Mulamattathil has been admitted to Kottayam Medical College hospital, while George, 54, from Kidangoor Nandikkatu, wife Leelama (48), daughter Nimisha (24), and Lintu (26) have been admitted to Kolancherry Medical College hospital. Sunny, 56, from Kidangoor Nandikkattu, son Suresh and lorry driver Austine, 26, from Mangalapuram have been admitted to Moovattupuzha Nirmala hospital.      

Thomas was on his way to catch a flight to US to meet her daughter settled there. He was in Vertigo car and those who were going to the airport to see Nimisha off to Ireland were in Ertiga car.

The lorry with Karnataka registration and loaded with fish was going towards Thodupuzha from Prumbavoor.

The rescue operation was delayed since the accident happened at odd hours and police said the lorry driver might have dozed off, losing control of his vehicle.
