THRISSUR: The entry of the procession bearing the idol of Kanimangalam Shasta through the southern entrance of Vadakkunatha temple on Friday marked the beginning of this years’ Thrissur pooram festival.
The tradition known as the Thiruvambadi group’s madhathil varavu accompanied by Panchavadhyam took place at 11:30 am and the Ilanjithara melam of Paramekkavu was performed at 2pm. Kudamattam will take place at 5:30 pm. And the bursting crackers will held at 3 am on Saturday.
Pooram will get over on Satrudat at around at noon. Apart from Thiruvambadi and Paramekkavu temples, Kanimangalam/Panamukkampilli Shastha temples and Laloor/ Ayyanthol/ Chembukavu/Choorakottukavu/Neythalakkavu/Karamukku Devi temples are the other participants in the Thrissur pooram. Sample bursting of crackers that was to take place on Thursday was abandoned due to heavy rains.
