Rain batters Kochi; hartal turns into a damp squib

KOCHI:  Kochi city was inundated by flooding, after it continued to receive heavy spells of rain through out the day on Thursday. South Railway station and KSRTC bus stand were flooded with rain water. The train schedules went haywire after six tracks were submerged by water.  Many morning also trains got delayed.

Ernakulam-Passenger train was cancelled but the hartal called by Mullaperiyar Samarasamithi in protest against the Supreme Court order on Mullaperiyar Dam issue failed to make any impact on the city.

The rain had started from Wednesday morning, which continued all through the night.
The railway officials have informed that all trains will be diverted via North Railway station. The district administration officials has said that if rains continue, warnings will be issued.

Meanwhile, most shops remained open on the day and vehicles including short/long distance buses took to the roads.
