Court cancels action against officials in spy case

KOCHI: A division bench of the Kerala High Court Wednesday cancelled the order of the single bench seeking action against officials, who investigated the ISRO spy case. A division bench led by Acting Chief Justice Ashok Bhushan cancelled the order seeking action against Siby Mathews, DySP K K Joshua and circle inspector S Vijayan.

There is no proof of assault towards ISRO scientist Nambi Narayanan in custody. No situation arises to take disciplinary action against officials. The report contains only opinions and consider it only if necessary. The government functioned as per the report of police chief and there is no fault in that. Action against officials was not demanded either by the chief judicial magistrate court or the Supreme Court, the division bench pointed.

The CBI recommended action against officials. The single bench passed a favourable verdict on Nambi Narayanan’s plea seeking action against officials. The bench directed to inform within three months after taking steps. However, the government did not move against it. Instead, Siby Mathews filed an appeal on his own.

An amount of Rs 10 lakhs was given to Nambi Narayanan as compensation as per the order of National Human Rights Commission, in the case.
