CPI State Secretary: Voting avoided by 'clapping of hands'

KOTTAYAM: CPI National Executive member K E Ismail, who had eyed CPI State Secretary’s post, was dissuaded from contesting by his supporters who advised him to avoid a voting session and the ovation in the CPI conference, when Kanam Rajesndran’s name was suggested.

As soon as the leaders came in to the meeting of the new CPI State Council,  V S Sanal Kumar and R Lathadevi suggested that a decision regarding the new State secretary be taken, forgoing the voting session.

Earlier, both Ismail and Kanam Rajendran were in talks but they were not able to reach a consensus on the election of the new secretary. When the talks apparently necessitated the voting  session, Ismail supporters Sunil and Latha devi took the unexpected stand.

Even at that point, some cadres asked the Central leadership to suggest a name for the secretary’s post, again creating a confusion there. After that, party general secretary Sudhakar Reddy held separate talks with Ismail and Kanam at the venue. Finally, the Central leadership suggested Kanam’s name which saw the whole gathering bursting into thunderous applause. Later Ismail had to back out from the virtual race, considering the general sentiments at the conference.
