June 12, 2011: Excise Minister K. Babu today said that the next cabinet meeting which will be held on Wednesday will discuss the issues relating to the toll collection at Aroor- Edapally National highway. Speaking to the reporters here today, Minister added that the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) authorities will attend the meeting.
Meanwhile the toll collection at the Aroor- Edappally stretch has been temporarily stopped. The decision was taken during the talks held between PWD Minister Ibrahim Kunju and NHAI in Kochi. The Minister added that the toll collection cannot be stopped completely.
Meanwhile, Union Minister KV Thomas today said that toll collection in Aroor-Edappally NH cannot be avoided. He was speaking at a meeting in Kochi for discussing the (NHAI’s) decision to collect user fee from motorists using the Aroor-Edapally (16 km) stretch of the NH 47 bypass.
He said that the toll is being levied on the basis of national policy and toll collection is being held in other states too.
