Attack on scribes in T’puram: SHRC registers case

Sunday, July 24, 2011: The Kerala State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) has registered a case in connection with the brutal attack on three scribes at the LMS compound of the CSI Church in Palayam here on July 14.
The commission has also instructed the DGP, Chief secretary and Home department secretary to conduct an inquiry into the incident and submit a detailed report.

Meanwhile the two accused identified as Edwin George and Raselian were granted conditional anticipatory bail on Friday. Reporter Sarath Krishnan and cameraman Ayyappan were attacked when they reached LMS compound to cover a group of protestors who were there to meet the Bishop and hand over a complaint regarding irregularities in admissions made to the Karakkonam Medical College.
The offenders snatched the camera and took away the DV cassette. As a protest against this incident several journalists under the KUWJ took out a march to the LMS compound which turned violent after they clashed with the police.
The police resorted to minor lathicharge in which Indiavision channel bureau Chief Marshal V Sebastian sustained injuries to his head.
