Mani dismisses allegation raised by MLAs

Friday, July 08, 2011: State Finance Minister K.M. Mani said that the allegation raised by some MLAs that the state Budget has a partisan nature was incorrect.
Speaking to the reporters here on Friday, Mani said the budget has set aside Rs 200 crore for road development in all 14 districts. It is up to the MLAs to decide which road should get the budgetary allocation.
The other allegation that the coastal areas have been ingnored is also wrong, he said. The proposed ‘Coastal Development Authority’ is for the development of the areas, Mani said.
Many other projects have also been announced for the development of the coastal belt, he said.
Earlier, Congress MLAs led by T.N.Prathapan had raised objections to the allegedly ‘partisan’ nature of several proposals in the interim Budget presented by the finance minister.
The MLAs then approached the KPCC president Ramesh Chennithala saying the budget has totally sidelined the coastal areas. They also alleged that the Budget was ‘Kottayam-centric’.
