Pay revision: Talks with Govt medicos remain inconclusive

Sunday, July 24, 2011: The third round of talks held between Health Minister-Adoor Prakash, Chief Minister-Oommen Chandy and Kerala Government Medical Officers’ Association (KGMOA) in connection with their pay revision issues, remained inconclusive.
The KGMOA have threatened to go on indefinite strike from July 30 raising various demands mainly to merge special allowance with basic salary, to increase the allowances of specialist doctors.
Speaking to reporters later, Prakash said government had agreed to most of the doctors’ demands and further discussions would be held in Thiruvananthapuram tomorrow.
The KGMOA had earlier deferred their indefinite strike plan from July 19 to 30 after the government agreed to approve the demands.
Though the indefinite strike plan was postponed, the doctors will continue their non-cooperation agitation till a final decision on their pay revision issues is arrived at, a senior spokesperson of the KGMOA said.
This is the second time that the KGMOA has deferred its strike plan. Its initial plan to go on strike from June 10 was deferred by a month following a request from the Chief Minister that the government needed more time to study the doctors’ grievances.
