Appropriate climate needed for completion of Vizhinjam project: Minister Babu

THIRVANANTHAPURAM: For the completion of the Vizhinjam project the right socio-political climate should prevail, Port Minister K Babu has said. He was making the presidential address at the seminar titled 'Vizhinjam harbour and Kerala Development', organised by Kerala Kaumudi at the Thiruvananthapuram press Club on Tuesday.

"Vizhinjam project is a dream project and government has worked systematically to make the dream come true. Media including Kerala Kaumudi have supported the project," the minister said.

He said though Vizhinjam was touted to be a 'gold mine' that would benefit private enterprises, no one came forward to submit the tender. Later the chief minister virtually wooed the bidders and sought a way out to make the project a reality. From 2010 all moves regarding the project were made in an orderly and transparent manner. Of that the most important was environmental studies conducted. Now the project would be implemented with the consent of all allies," he added.
