Don’t extend local body poll date: KPCC-govt co-ordination committee

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: KPCC-government co-ordination committee has decided not to extend the date of local self-governing body polls. The meeting also assigned the chief minister to decide on going for appeal against the high court’s order cancelling the formation of new corporations and panchayats The chief minister has been asked to take necessary steps after holding discussions with UDF allies and legal experts.

An opinion that came up in the meeting was that the government need not oppose conducting polls like in 2010, in case the polls are not held on the basis of ward bifurcation.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy has said in the meeting that the party should ensure that there are no arguments in the UDF over war bifurcation. He also asked the Congress members to avoid any kind of estrangement with the Muslim League. “Keep them posted with party decisions. Any friction with them is not good,” Chandy warned.
