Deal signed for Vizhinjam harbour project

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The state government has signed the concession agreement for the Vizhinjam harbour project, the dream project of the state. James Varghese, Principal Secretary of Ports signed the agreement on behalf of the government and Santhosh Mahaparta, CEO, Adani Vizhinjam Port Pvt Ltd on behalf of the Adani Group.

The function held at the Durbar Hall in the secretariat was attended by Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, Adani Ports Company chairman Gautam Adani, Harbour Minister K Babu, Finance Minister K M Mani, Speaker N Shakthan, MLAs and Adani Group directors. The Left Front boycotted the function in protest against the terms and conditions of the agreement.

An amount of Rs 5552 crore will be spent in the first phase. 3600 crore of the amount is invested from outside the state. The construction of the project will begin on November 1, Kerala Day. The first phase will be completed in two years. The Adani Group announced the outline of the construction of the harbour at the time of signing the agreement. The construction is to be completed in four years.
