Smoke in Inter City triggers panic

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Tension gripped passengers travelling in the Inter City Express coming from Guruvayur to Thiruvananthapuram after smoke emanated from a bogie. The passengers ran to safety thinking the train would catch fire. The incident happened Wednesday morning when the train reached Kazhakoottam railway station. The train resumed service after examining the snag.

Passengers of the train which started from Guruvayur at 3.30 am this morning pulled the chain soon after the train left Varkala station on suspicion that a youth fell into the railway track. When the train started after stopping at Murukkumpuzha and was about to reach Kazhakoottam station, fire was seen emanating from the fourth bogie.

When the train stopped at Kazhakoottam station, the passengers of the bogie panicked seeing the fire. In the examination conducted by the railway officials, it was a technical snag found in the breaking system. If a snag is seen in the breaking system, first a burning smell and then smoke will emanate.  After halting for 15 minutes, the train resumed its journey.
