CPM not against Vizhinjam project, says Kodiyeri

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The CPM is not against the Vizhinjam Harbour Project, said party state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan. The party is opposing the non-transparency in signing the project, Kodiyeri said at the press meet.

The CPM wants the project to be made a reality. Adani Group is spending only 2500 crore in the 7500 crore project. The remaining amount is out of public participation. If that is so, then why the project is not implemented in the public sector. The previous LDF Government under V S Achuthanandan took the initiative for the project. The government had then formed a consortium of 4500 crore.  However, the UPA Government did not give sanction for the project. The BJP gave sanction as it is now helmed by Adani. If it was somebody else, would the BJP government given sanction, asked Kodiyeri.

The LDF is not aware of signing the project and so will not go for the function. The anxiety raised by Archbishop Soosapakyam on the project is true. The CPM will support their strike and if they withdraw from it, then should make clear the reason for it, he said.
