Murder accused behind robbery in train

KOTTAYAM: Santhosh, native of Nagercoil, nabbed in connection with the robbery in train is an accused in a murder case, informed the railway police. A couple travelling in a train was attacked by two miscreants, who also made away with their valuables yesterday.  Hayrunisa from Kallambalam who is a victim of the attack has been admitted to Kottayam Medical College. Her husband Muhammed Nasim was also injured in the attack.

Santhosh had stabbed his friend Baluswamy to death in Ernakulam three years before. Santhosh, who escaped from the juvenile home in 2013 was absconding from then. The railway police obtained the details while interrogating him. Vinu from Nagercoil was also arrested along with Santhosh.

The couple was robbed on the Delhi-bound Kerala Express which started from the Thiruvananthapuram Railway Station at 11:15 am. Hyrunisa was travelling in the bogie for differently-abled persons with her two children and visually-impaired husband. When the train departed from Kottayam and reached a place between Kuruppanthara and Kothanalloor, two youths entered their compartment and attacked them before robbing them of their mobile phones, Rs 5000 and gold ornaments. Hyrunasia got beaten on her head when she tried to protect her husband from attack. When passengers from other compartments reached the incident spot, the attackers jumped off the train after pulling the chain. The passengers took Hyrunisa and her family to the hospital.
