Beef festival: Inquiry against college teacher

THRISSUR: Kochi Devaswom Board President Bhaskaran Nair has ordered an inquiry against college lecturer Deepa Nishanth in connection with the beef festival held at Sree Kerala Varma College.

Nair said the teacher should have avoided publicising her response to the festival and further action would be taken after he received the inquiry report.

Deepa had made a post on her facebook page, endorsing the beef festival. But as there was threat from Sangha Parivar organisations, Deepa later withdrew the post. ABVP and Yuva Morcha activists had also given a letter to the principle demanding action against those who had responded against the beef ban.

“I am strongly opposing the view that educational institutions are temples. It is not the temple rituals that should be followed in colleges. Those who are demanding the ouster of teachers supporting the beef festival should first oust me, “ Deepa had challenged on his post.

As Deep’s post went viral, many came out to support her in the social media. A bunch of students also created a Facebook page ttiled ‘Support Deepa’. Even now a strong campaign is going on for her. Thousands have by now changed their status on the facebook, stating their support for the headstrong teacher.
