Consensus at PLC meeting for Rs 301 min wage

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A consensus was reached at the Plantation Labour Committee meeting on Thursday to increase the minimum wage of plantation workers to Rs 301. But to get this wage, the workers have to pluck 25kg tea leaves. The conditions proposed by the plantation owners were agreed by the workers.

Earlier the workers were given Rs 232 minimum wage when they used to pluck 21 kg.

Coffee plantation workers’ minimum wage has also been raised to Rs 301 while the rubber workers’ wage has been raised to Rs 381.

Following the above developments, United Trade Union on Wednesday decided to end the strike and the workers will return to work from Thursday.
