KOCHI: The Ernakulam additional sessions court Wednesday awarded death sentence to Thomas Alva Edison, a native of Thoothukkudy in Tamil Nadu, on charges of murdering three of his friends – Sasi (24), Vijay (24) and Suresh by setting them on fire at their room in Kombara. The three were migrant labourers and he took the extreme step following a wage dispute.
The incident happened on February 21 in 2009. The labourers had demanded more wages and said if it is not given they would return back to their native place. They also demanded Rs 14000 which they had to obtain as wages. Following that, a verbal dispute broke out and he left the place in an inebriated condition. He came back later and set ablaze the house after dousing petrol.
