MUNNAR: Eleven among the women plantations workers in Munnar who have been on strike fell unconscious on Monday as their health conditioned worsened. The police have admitted them to Munnar Tala Tea hospital. The incident happened at 6:45 pm.
There were 18 workers who were sitting on a fast demanding hike in wages. As the workers were shouting slogans, braving down pour, five among them first swooned. They were Revathy, Ranjitha, Umadevi, Selvi, and Manimekhala. Following this six more swooned by about 7pm.They were also shifted to hospital by the police.
Ten workers, however, came to replace the sick workers and they said they would intensify the strike in coming days as Monday's talks also failed.
