Plantation wages issue: Meet of trade unions called

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister Oommen Chandy will convene a meet next Tuesday to discuss the increase in wages of the plantation sector in the state. Labour Minister Shibu Baby John will also take part in the meeting. All trade unions have been invited for the meeting.

The meet convened the other day to discuss the low wages of the plantation workers ended in a stalemate. The plantation owners were not willing to give in to the demands of the workers to raise their daily wage to Rs 500.

Meantime, the workers have started besieging the roads in Munnar for not compromising the strike. When the talks failed, the workers responded to the media in tears.
