DGPs take charge

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Directors General of Police (DGPs) Rishiraj Singh and Loknath Behera on Tuesday assumed office as head of the Prisons and Fire and Rescue Departments respectively.

They were on leave after informing the Chief Secretary last week that the posts assigned to them were not cadre posts meant for DGPs and if they took charge they would only have the pay and emoluments due to ADGP rank officials.

The officials had also privately protested that an ADGP, in this case N Sankar Reddy, was considered as Director, Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (VACB). The post of Vigilance Director is a DGP cadre post like that of the State Police Chief.

The Home Department had informed the officers that key posts could not be kept vacant for long. Home Department officials said Reddy would soon take charge as Vigilance chief.
