Finally, Vizhinjam project starts rolling

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala’s much-awaited Vizhinjam project was finally flagged off on Saturday at a grand inaugural function held at Vizhinjam Mukkola. In a specially arranged venue, Union Shipping Minister Nitin Gadkari inaugurated the multi-crore project by breaking a coconut. The chief minister also followed suit at the function attended by project developer Adani Group’s chairman Gautham Adani. The Opposition however boycotted the auspicious function.     

Port Minister K Babu, Minister V S Sivakumar, Assembly Deputy Speaker Palode Ravi and Sashi Tharoor MP were among those present on the dais.  

The project estimated at Rs 7525 crore will come up on the 350 acre space which includes 220 acre land space and 130 acre sea area. Though the project period is four years, Adani group promises that the project will be completed within 1000 days.

Of the estimated Rs 7525 crore, Rs 2280 crore will be spent by Kerala government and the Centre’s share will be Rs 817.8 crore. As per the contract, the government will start getting income from the seventh year.
