Milma employees withdraw strike

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The indefinite strike called by Milma employees from Wednesday in support of their various demands, has been withdrawn, following the talks held by the strikers with Labour Commissioner.

The Commissioner has assured the employees that all objections to their pension scheme would be removed. The new welfare scheme will be implemented before March 31, 2016. However, the Labour Commissioner informed that it is the government which has the authority to decide on increasing the pension age.

Joint Trade Union leaders and Milma Management representatives had attended the meeting. Milma Chairman P T Gopalakrishna Kurup informed today morning that the management had requested the government to apply ESMA if the employees continued their strike. He also said that the strike was unnecessary.

Following the strike, there was shortage of milk today. The dairy farmers also had expressed their resentment over the strike. They protested in Kozhikode by pouring milk onto the road in front of Kozhikode milk storage centre.
