THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Minister P J Joseph on Wednesday said that the situation at the Mullaperiyar dam is highly perilous.
“The water level in Mullaperiyar dam will rise to 160 feet if the catchment area gets 60 cm rain continuously for 48 hours, according to Delhi IIT experts. In Munnar it has rained in the same way in 1924. If such a situation arises, nothing much can be done. The Centre should give sanction to Kerala’s bid to build a safety dam. What is needed in the case of Mullaperiyar dam is political solution,” the minister told media persons.
