Non-corrupt persons reduced to nothing: Jacob Thomas

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: DGP Jacob Thomas has said the present situation is that non-corrupt persons are reduced to nothing. He was speaking at a programme held at Press Club on the occasion of the anti-corruption day.

“The move now is to establish that the non-corrupt persons are mad. It is still doubtful whether there is any policy against corruption. In 2014, ant-corruption day was observed under the leadership of the chief minister. But this time around, nobody is seen,” he said.

He said the fear of losing power or position is also a reason for corruption. “If voice is raised against corruption, we wold get at least four memos. That is the situation now.”

His long talk also touched upon big controversies surrounding flat construction and related rules. “The development should not only be in the upward direction. It should also be downwards and towards sides. If we think about only upward growth, Chennai (flood) like situations will emerge in Kerala also,” he warned.

Jacob Thomas asked, “who was deciding the policy here? Is it the flat developers or vested interests?”

He sarcastically said that those persons reaching the post of Secretary should at least have three Vigilance cases against them. He also added, to a certain extent, the media had been able to prevent corruption.
