THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister Oommen Chandy has conveyed to the Prime Minister’s Office, his resentment over the Shankar statue controversy. In the letter sent to the PMO, the chief minister expressed his strong protest against its failure to intervene in the issue in the right manner.
The organisers had told the chief minister that Intelligence report had advised against Chandy’s invitation as his presence in the programme could witness protest during the programme. Chandy asked whether such an intelligence report existed. He said even after coming to know about the insult shown to him, the PM’s office didn’t come forward to enquire about the incident.
“What could have been your reaction, if such a thing occurred in Gujarat when you were the prime minister? I had not written to the prime minister pointing out that I would not attend the function. Minister Rajiv Pratap Rudy made such a statement in Parliament based on the letter given by Protocol chief. This was not based on facts. Not only that, through this, the minister had misled Parliament,” the chief minister said.
