THIRUVANATHAPURAM: The Sangh Parivar who had hijacked Congress freedom fighter Sardar Vallabhai Patel, has also hijacked R Shankar, CPM Politburo member Pinarayi Vijayan has said.
He said this after inaugurating the regional convention of NREG, an employees’ organisation here on Wednesday.
“Chandy’s failure to inform the prime minister’s office the protest against excluding him from the statue unveiling ceremony gives room for many doubts. In the letter sent to the prime minister, there is not even the slightest sign of protest. Is it a joint drama between the chief minister and Vellapally? Vellapally has cited an Intelligence report for his action. But an intelligence report should first reach the State government and not Vellapally,” Pinarayi ridiculed.
Pinarayi said that the function organised by SN Trust was converted into a Sangh Parivar programme. “R Shankar was Kerala chief minister and SNDP leader and how did he become an RSS? Hearing about a temple that was gutted in fire, SNDP’s main activist and former chief minister C Kesavan had remarked that as much superstition would be less then. It was the strength gained from Sree Narayana preaching.”
Pinarayi said even at government level attempts were being made to destroy the communal amity. “Modi who reached Kerala for the first time as the prime minister talked about caste and religion-based discriminations. But, he should have talked about the State’s development issues,” he said.
