KOLLAM: In three separate accidents that took place in three different places in Kollam between Thursday night and Friday morning, three persons died.
The accident took place in Bharanikkavu, Karunagapally and Ayathil.
At Bharanikkavu, a mini lorry loaded with bricks rammed a container lorry that was parked on the road side. The mini lorry’s cleaner died in the accident. The dead has been identified as Shoonad Prince Bricks worker and Bengal native Amal Roy (40).
The container lorry was loaded with iron pipes that was being brought for Kallada Japan Drinking Water project. The lorry with 16 tyres was parked at the road side along Bharanikkavu-Kottavathil roadside.
Mini lorry had rammed into the back side of the container lorry. In the accident, the mini lorry’s front side was severely damaged. Though Amal Roy was admitted in Taluk hospital, he died in the hospital. He had been a staff of Shoonad brick company for the past eight years. Mini lorry driver Radhakrishna Pillai has no injuries and he said that glare of the light of vehicle that was coming from opposite side had caused the accident.
Bagalore native Ponnithu (50) was the person who died at Karunagapally Vavvakkavu Puthan Theruvu in the night after he was hit by a parcel lorry. Ponnithu, a butler, was travelling with a group of tourists going towards Kovalam from Bangalore. The accident happened when he got off the tourist bus and crossed the road to buy something from the Opposite side. Though his co-passengers immediately took him to Alappuzha Vandanam Medical College, he died today morning.
The third accident happened yesterday night along Kollam-Kannanallur road (Ayathil Number 2) when a cycle and scooter collided. The dead was Abdul Azeez (62) of Peroor Kadavila house. A tea stall owner, Azeez was returning home after closing his tea shop. Though he was admitted with severe injuries in hospital, he succumbed to his injuries.
