Party to examine reason for defeat, says Chennithala

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The congress will examine the defeat the party faced in the assembly polls in states including Delhi, said KPCC chief Ramesh Chennithala. The defeat of Sheila Dikshit in Delhi is shocking, he said.

Sheila Dikshit was a chief minister who did many noble things for the people of Delhi in the last 15 years. Her defeat was unexpected, he said.

The price rise has affected the congress in the polls, said Union Cabinet Minister of Overseas Indian Affairs Vayalar Ravi. The party will examine the reason for the defeat.

Meantime, Chief Whip P C George said the congress will come to a close soon after the parliament polls. The congress should learn a lesson from this defeat. Congress leaders are at the peak of pride, he added.

Minister P K Kunhalikutty said the Congress should learn lessons from one of its worst electoral debacle in the Delhi, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh assembly polls, said Minister P K Kunhalikutty.  There is enough time to make amends ahead of the 2014 general election, he said.

Asked whether he held Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi responsible for the reversal, he said it is not fair to blame him for it.

The IUML is a constituent of both the UPA government at the Centre and the UDF in the state, he said.
