Kollam Engineering College Ragging case: Four students suspended

KOLLAM: A case has been registered against eight students in the fourth semester of a private engineering college in Kollam following a complaint lodged by the College principal in connection with ragging incidents in the college. The complaint was that eight senior students  had cruelly ragged first semester students of the college over the past one year. The complaint was lodged with the Kilikollur police station. The principal also suspended four students in this regard.

The modus operandi was to harass the students mentally and physically, alleging that they didn’t respect the senior batches. Then the culprits used to admit the injured students in hospital under fake names.

Though the ragging had started from the beginning of the course, the victims didn’t disclose it to the Principal or the school management, fearing that the accused had strong links with drug mafia and goons. In the last incidence of ragging when one of the students was seriously injured, the victim students gave a written complaint to the Principal and management.

Meanwhile, the police said that the primary information was that more than 20 students were involved in the incidents . They said they have started serious inquiry into the incident.
