NEW DELHI: The KGS Group filed a fresh plea to the union forest and environment ministry seeking environmental clearance for the proposed Aranmula Airport Project. The Chennai Bench of the National Green Tribunal had cancelled the clearance given to the airport last May. Following that, a fresh plea was filed.
The Kerala Government had earlier given a no objection certificate for the project.
Out of the project area of 490 acres, 50 acres is of barren land and 41 acres of rubber plantation. 325 acres which is unfit for cultivation will also be included in the project area. Government and private lands are included in the project area. 66% of it is unfit for cultivation. The plea filed says that as per the list of National Centre for Earth Science Studies (CESS) the Aranmula village housing the proposed project has not noticed any marshy place.
The government has suffered a setback with the cancellation of the environment clearance. The chief minister had stated that if the company obtains clearance again, the government will grant sanction or the project.
