KOCHI: The distribution of LPG cylinders from Wayanad to Kottayam has come to a halt with the tanker drivers of the LPG Plant in Ambalamugal are on strike. The strike has entered its sixth day Monday and the people of the state will suffer if the distribution is stalled completely considering the Vishu festival season. If this continues, they will have to celebrate the festival without gas.
Along with the rise in essential items, the people will have to pay an exorbitant price to get it from the black market. The drivers are on strike demanding the appointment of cleaners. The protestors have been called for discussions this evening. Lorry owners and leaders of drivers union will partake in the discussions led by assistant labour commissioner Eugene Gomez.
The distribution of gas which has been disrupted for the last six days and even if restored will take at least two weeks to reach normal level. Distribution of LPG will be disrupted as tomorrow and day after tomorrow are holidays. Following the strike, the distribution of cooking gas of Bharat Gas in Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Wayanad, Kozhikode, Alappuzha and Kottayam, have come to a standstill. The consumers are having a tough time as the stock in these agencies are over.
