THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Bringing embarrassment to hundreds of thousands of animal lovers across India, Supreme Court in its order on Friday said that "street dogs that prove a threat to human life can be put to sleep". The court was not ready to stay the 2006 high court order favouring killing of dogs that are harmful to human beings.
The apex court also dismissed the petition filed by Animal Welfare Board against the above high court order.
Kerala government had informed the court that many people including children and women came under the attack of street dogs. The state also had submitted before the court a detailed report in this regard.
