Manappuram Robbery: Six including Company manager arrested

DINDIGUL: In acase in which gold ornaments worth Rs 6 crore and cash were stolen from Batalagundu branch of Manappuram Finance, the manager of the bank and five others were arrested.

Police said company manager Sankili Pandy and another staff there had helped a four-member gang to perpetrate the big robbery. Police Superintendent Saravanan said they did the crime to cover up embezzlement of gold pawned by them in the bank.   Six and a half kilogram gold and Rs 8 lakh out of Rs 17 lakh have been recovered from them.

“Sankili and his aides had taken lakhs of rupees as loan after pledging fake gold. Later they decided to commit the robbery once higher bank officials had come to the bank for inspections,” said Saravanan, explaining Sankili and his team’s confession.
