MUNNAR: Devikulam MLA S Rajendran Saturday began a hunger strike seeking a solution to the strike staged by the plantation workers in Munnar demanding 20 per cent bonus and increase in their daily wages. The strike has entered the eighth day today. Rajendran’s strike is a kilometer away from the labourers site. He has sought justice for the workers. The chief minister should intervene in the issue. The situation where Kannan Devan Company is moving for a lock out should be avoided, he said.
Meantime, the labourers shouted slogans against Rajendran.
In the meanwhile, the chief minister has justified the strike of the plantation workers. He also justified their demands. He said that if needed he will directly intervene in the issue. Talks will be held with the Kannan Devam Company in Ernakulam tomorrow. Ministers Shibu Baby John and Aryadan Muhammed had already held talks with the authorities of the company. The company should be ready to compromise, he said.
