MUNNAR: Opposition leader V S Achuthanandran reached Munnar to offer his support to the striking plantation workers demanding an increase in bonus and increase in their daily wages. Talking to reporters, he said that he is with the workers.
VS said the government should take steps to implement the demands voiced by the workers of Munnar. The government should be ready to control Kannan Devan Company and also see that the situation in Munnar is under control. Naveena Munnar brought by the former LDF government was sabotaged by the UDF Government, he alleged. The leader justified the demands of the workers. Not giving bonus and not increasing the daily wages of the workers cannot be justified. Along with the increase in wages, they should be given clean housing facilities and hospital benefits.
VS, who reached Munnar at 11 am was given a grand welcome. He began his speech addressing the workers as ‘Makkale Vanakkam’ in Tamil. After visiting the protest venue, VS returned to the guest house. None of the local leaders accompanied him. The leader did not visit Devikulam MLA S Rajendram staging a fast seeking a solution for the Munnar strike.
Before leaving Aluva, he told reporters that he is going to see the protestors of Munnar and not the MLA.
